Resolving to Be Still

Are you a New Years resolution kind of gal? I love the notion of a better me and fresh starts. But truthfully, my resolutions fall flat after a few weeks in. And a “better” me isn’t who God is calling me to be. He is simply calling us to be Christ like, to be His hands and feet, and to be His light. It’s not about us.

Rather than making resolutions, I prefer to choose a word or phrase for each new year. My word for 2017 was SIMPLE. I changed my lifestyle, stopped excess spending, purged much of the excess in my life, and got a big chunk of debt paid off. “Simple” is now a lifestyle rather than a year’s worth of living.

For 2018, I’ve chosen Psalm 46:10 as my phrase. “BE STILL, and know that I am God.” Ahh! What sweet freedom there is to be found when we stop hustling, step away from dense living, step away from trying to control every facet of our lives. I’m guilty.

I’m committing 2018 to sitting at the feet of Jesus, surrendering my worries and my wishes to His will, and trusting in His timing. No more plate-twirling and spin-cycle living, all the while missing His still, small, sweet voice.

How about you? What is your word, phrase, or verse for the new year?
